Biofilter

The biofilter is the heart of every recirculating aquaculture system. Fish continuously excrete ammonia, which is toxic even at low concentrations. SAQUA biofilters provide a large, well-aerated surface for beneficial nitrifying bacteria. These bacteria convert ammonia first into nitrite and then into nitrate, which is far less toxic, and keep the water safe for fish.

Designed and manufactured by SAQUA for RAS, the biofilter maintains stable water quality under high feed loads, which makes intensive and sustainable fish production possible.
